Death

Death arrives in the old decks on a white horse, unhurried, wearing dark armor that reflects everything back at us. There is no malice in this figure — only inevitability. Today carries that same energy: the kind that doesn't knock twice. Something in our lives has reached its natural end, and the card doesn't ask us to mourn it. It asks us to witness it honestly, the way we watch the last light leave a sky and call it beautiful.

This isn't about loss in the way we fear loss. It's about the strange mercy of completion. A relationship, a habit, a version of ourselves we wore so long we forgot it was a costume — something is ready to be set down. The Death card understands what we resist knowing: that clinging to what is already over doesn't keep it alive. It only keeps us from crossing the threshold into what waits on the other side, patient and new.

Today invites us to sit with endings without rushing them into meaning. We don't need to know yet what comes next. The ritual of release is its own sacred act — the exhale before the next breath, the fallow field before the planting. We are called to trust that transformation is not the enemy of our story. It is, in fact, the story itself.
