Death
Death is the card of the clean ending — what has finished is finished, and pretending otherwise costs you.
Upright
Upright meaning
Something in your life is already over; you are only deciding how long to keep it on life support. Death does not ask permission and it does not negotiate. Let the ending be an ending — grieve it properly, and what comes next arrives sooner and far cleaner.

Origins & Symbolism
Death rides straight out of the medieval Dance of Death, the danse macabre in which a skeleton claimed king, bishop, and child without regard for rank. The 1909 Rider-Waite-Smith card armors that reaper in black on a white horse, bearing a white five-petaled rose and riding toward a sunrise between two pillars. The imagery reads transformation, not annihilation — an ending that clears ground.
Reading It For Yourself
Resist reading this literally — it almost never means a body. Ask what in your life is already over while you keep it on life support. In a future position it promises change you cannot stop, so plan for after rather than against it. Reversed, name what you are refusing to bury. Point the card at one specific ending and let the rest of the spread show what the sunrise holds.
Love
A relationship crosses a line it cannot cross back over — an ending, or a change so total the old version is gone. Mourn what it was instead of trying to resurrect it. Whatever continues after this will at least be honest.
Career
The role you outgrew, the business model that no longer works, the title you have been defending past its usefulness. Resign the thing before it collapses under you. Endings you choose are survivable in a way that endings choosing you are not.
Health
A habit has to die outright for your body to recover — not moderated, ended. Its name arrived before you finished reading that sentence.
Guidance
Name what is already dead and stop feeding it. Bury it properly, with gratitude for what it was — then turn and face the sunrise.
